CTC ends the summer with open house

Central Texas College hosted the end of the summer with ice cream, alumni speakers, and a fashion show held by the College For Kids program.

The event filled the upper and lower levels of the Anderson Campus Center.

On the upper level, the Culinary Arts Department served up ice cream sundaes with choice of toppings, and registrants could also visit a lineup of the college’s multiple programs.

There was a chance to spin the wheel at the Mayborn Science Theater booth, and for correctly answering a trivia question based on subjects ranging from history and science to Harry Potter, winners would receive a free ticket to a planetarium show.

Prospective students could find out more about admissions, financial aid, as well as the CTC Foundation, which raises funds for student scholarships.

In addition to the opportunity to browse the selection of degree and certificate programs, as well as adult continuing education options, attendees could have tours of the campus.

CTC alumni Kermain Lockett and Devin Morgan were the speakers for the annual event, where they shared their CTC success stories.

Lockett, a 2012 graduate of Ellison High School, was a past recipient of the CTC Foundation’s Eagle Warrior Scholarship, which provided tuition, fees, and books to complete his studies at both CTC as well as neighboring Texas A&M Central Texas. He graduated from CTC in 2014 and finished his bachelor’s degree at A&M in 2016.

Morgan, who followed a similar path, completed his AA in multidisciplinary studies at CTC in 2017, and finished his undergraduate degree at A&M in 2019, receiving a BBA in Business Administration.

After the two guest speakers, the summer’s College For Kids program ended on a high note with a fashion show, put on by a dozen young students of the week-long fashionista course. The girls each had as many as three models showing off their work that they had completed during the days leading up to Saturday’s event.

Along with the fashion show, there were ticket drawings for a variety of prizes to raise funds for the College for Kids programs.

The program featured classes such as multimedia art classes, junior chef, fire fighter academy, as well as many science courses during the months of June and July.
